The Perfect GTD List Manager – Part II

We received a tremendous response to the podcast from David Allen & his tech team on finding the “Perfect GTD List Manager.”  Some of you were delighted that we continue to hold true to GTD being an approach that is “tool-agnostic,” applicable to nearly any tool you choose.  On the other hand, some of you were pretty vocal that you were upset that we still didn’t tell you which tool to use.  Fair enough!  We know there is a balance to give you between theory and application, and some of you would like some more direction on this. So David and his team sat down for further conversation on The Perfect GTD List Manager. This time, David actually does reveal “the secret” and it may not be what you think…

  1. I really enjoyed both parts of this podcast. I am just getting started with GTD and still haven’t gotten through the collection part, but I have already started seeing tremendous results. I look forward to more of these.

  2. Thanks for the podcast – good stuff. I’ve often looked for the perfect tools for GTD because I thought it was what I needed–but what I really needed was to do the work of engaging with my stuff and clarifying it. No tool can do this for me. This podcast helped me think about this. Thanks.

  3. Perfect! David’s comment at the end provided an aha! moment for me. To paraphrase; it is not the tool/system, it is my relationship to the tool/system. And to consider where I turn my attention, by default, when I am considering what to do next. Most helpful. Thank you all!

  4. Great, great posts, both of them. I absolutely love the thing you stress, and that was also why I have joined the David Allens horde disciples in the first place, about GTD that it is a system for the user to use his/her brain for what it is best at – that it is a system to relieve the pressure on your brain and not remembering your commitments and appointments at the right moments but instead making use of its full capacity to add value to your commitments and appointments.

I study International Business and I would say that we have a case of two entities where absolute advantages exist; GTD has an absolute advantage in keeping track of your life while your brain has an absolute advantage in making your life as fulfilling as possible.
