So true about the clear deck. Made all the difference to me in the last year, keeping my inbox clear and my project list current.
Absolutely-focus and a clear deck are critical.
Also, I find that training yourself to slow down and gain perspective by going into a meditative state before plunging into action is critical.
The natural fight-or-flight response doesn’t work well when you need to do the hard intellectual work of prioritizing and planning.
