  • Minimum taps voice memo app

    I just upgraded from an android phone, a Nexus1 CM7 to CM10 on s3 i9300.

Before I used voice search to create a voice note saying "note to self ... ". Now with Jelly Bean, this function is screwed up. If you say "note to self dentist 12pm saturday" it tries to create a calendar event but always gets the date and time wrong.

I have thought to uninstall voice search and roll back to voice search 2.1.4 but really I think it is perhaps a better idea to find a separate app.

I need to create a voice note as follows:
1 have the recording emailed to me (I don't want to solely rely on text to speech if i am recording in noisy places)
2 create the memo with minimal taps (e.g. assigning to a single long press home button, speaking the memo, and then auto send would be nice)
3 Be able to work even with no connectivity

It is excellent for reeling off lots of separate notes. Sound quality is great

I do miss the transcribed text from google I used to have - makes processing a bit easier even with all the mistakes google makes.

I also wish there was an app that could be controlled without using the screen for when I am cycling or half asleep.

I started off with NetMemoPro, but . ..

Migrated to One Touch Voice Note by Craig Hamilton. Does almost everything you want and can be set up for truly one touch.

        See:

No connection to the app or author; just a satisfied user.

One Touch Voice Note is also good. I like the fact that it reads back your note to you and says email sent - great for handsfree use perhaps...

However, it doesn't attach the audio file. Big problem for me because if the speech to text is wrong, you would need to rerecord the memo or potentially have to decipher some gobbledegook message later on.

I guess that if there is no connection, it wouldn't work at all.

Actually in the paid version, for each of the 8 destination buttons you can specify whether you want EITHER the recognized text (from Google's Voice to Text engine) OR the audio file sent.

Further, when there is no internet connection, the app will record the audio file and queue it for later delivery when a connection is again available. However, this will not queue it for subsequent voice-to-text, just send the attached audio file.

This app is the best I have seen so far. The siri-like voice interaction is great for taking the notes with just the button on the headset. As a side note, in Jelly Bean, google voice has control over a long press of the headset and that can't easily be changed. However, I have assigned a double click to Voicenote using "headsetbutton controller"

Just one thing - why doesn't Voicenote have a feature to send both transcription and audio file at the same time? I would really like to see this feature.

Also, I can't see a widget for this app which would be another improvement.

              Update:
The confirmation time out is set to 5 seconds by default - the trouble is this is the time from when the recording is read back. If you have a long recording it gets cut off. A short recording has a delay after it. Only a minor thing, but it would be nice if the delay could be set from the end of the confirmation.

There are a few errors in transcribing when talking into the phone, however, when using a headset it is much more accurate

Update: Voicememo has developed a fault - it says email sent successfully, but no emails are sent. Have tried reboot but no luck yet. Now waiting for some tech support.
