  • Blackberry Very Hardware

I am office-bound all the time. But this week I needed to get involved to move the contents of one warehouse into another. I spent three days lifting and moving heavy materials. I had my Blackberry clipped to my belt. First it fell off my belt onto the concrete and into a muddy puddle. Then it fell off a loading dock onto cobblestone. Then there was another fall onto concrete.

Then I figured out I had best store it in my pocket.

I mention all this because I am amazed how I abused the thing. It has a few scratches but it works fine.

I can't imagine my old Palm Tungsten (no phone) would have endured that abuse.

Blackerries have severe limitations. But they sure are hardy.

Why can't PDAs be hardy? I once had a Handspring whose screen broke when I just looked at it.

      Smaller screen can withstand more.

Blackberries have smaller screens than PDAs. Smaller screen is lighter so it can withstand more. Besides it is not a touch screen.

True! Forgot about the touch screen. Maybe the Blackberry could withstand my looking at it. . .but I have managed to keep my Clie alive by treating it as if it were made of hand-blown glass or something.

          Mighty Zaurus!

My Zaurus SL-5500 is still going strong after more than three years of hard use and abuse, including at least a few drops and falls. Plus it has a pretty big touchscreen plus a slide-out keyboard. I love this thing! Not sure what I'll do if it ever stops working.
