  • Creating Rubrics?

    Rubrics are very popular in education. They are sets of rating scales or criteria that have qualitative anchors. I see a lot of potential for using this type of thing in improving steps to increasing one's productivity or the relationship of one's work to one's values, etc. . I am wondering if anyone has experience with a program for creating rubrics. I found one free one on an educational site but it does not let you save it.

    Rubric- a misappropriated word

    Dictionary definitions include

    an authoritative rule of conduct or procedure

    and

    directions for the conduct of religious services.

    The word has been used recently in several contexts, mostly incorrectly. Rubrics are statements of the correct way things are to be done, not pragmatic assessment scales. Educators like to use words like rubrics because it makes them seem.. educated.

    Not really to the point, I know, but I had to share.

      Jamie Elis: Could you post some more detail on how you use Rubrics? It sounds like something I might want to learn more about.

        ex of rubric

        In general, the ideal performance is described. Then behaviors that exemplify various levels of performance between the NOT YET level and OUTSTANDING are described. If necessary more than oen scale may be created because the behavior may be multifacted.

        As an example:

        The "ideal" performance of taking everything you need with you involves having your book bag, gym bag, lunch, etc. packed is really very involved. All of items that need to be taken out of the house by the subject the next day or in probable upcoming days are assembled, cleary arranged in the appropriate container, and taken on the right day.

        Then ou write in description of the anchor points and rate.
