  • Your in-tray is a holding pattern

I have just introduced the in-tray clearing process to my team. One of the participants offered "Your in-tray is like a holding pattern". How appropriate given the runway -> 50,000 ft analogy for review.

What happens to a plane left too long in a holding pattern?

The same goes for things left in your in-tray.

So to push the analogy to the breaking point, emergency in-tray scanning is like mid-air refueling

I think it would be more like putting the aircraft back on course, after wandering off course.

Excellent analogy! Thanks, I'll try to remember that.

          good idea

I've written that down on my Next Actions sheet to help implement the analogy

          thanks
