  • Actions that are not part of a Project

Hi I am using Nozbe as my GTD system. If I have an action that is not part project, like "change light bulb in bedroom" how do it record this please?

    Area of Responsibility – Home

Put it in one of your areas of responsibility. For me it would be my Area titled Home. Very, very few software systems (online or desktop) support areas of responsibility (nozbe not being one of them) and for me, it's just as essential as a Projects list.

Also, make sure it isn't a project in disguise. Have you already purchased the light bulb in question? Do you know where it is? Do you need to go to the hardware store first? Could/should you need to send someone else to the hardware store? What kind of light bulb is it? Have you been considering purchasing a different type of light bulb? Would now be a good time to change? etc.

Those are just questions to help you plan. You may know the answers off the top of your head but hey, maybe not. If not, then it is probably a (tiny) project, not just a next action. [All the same, if it is a project, it should still go in your area of responsibility (probably) titled "Home."]

Definition of Project – Any outcome you want that requires two or more action steps.

    Hope that helps!

In OneNote i have a "project" that I call odds & sods (a british phrase as far as I know, not sure if you'll all come across it) where i put my random next actions. So if its not part of a project, it goes there. I imagine in most software this'll work.

Does Nozebe force things to be in a project? (I'm using omnifocus and it does not force that. I use a single actions list called miscellaneous for that sort of stuff.)

Can you make a project for those pieces? A catch-all like blishblaize suggested?

But I'd also echo the is it really a project questions. For example, change lightbulb above my desk became a project for me. First action is look in hall cabinet and see if we have any spare lightbulbs. Which we didn't, so the next action was to add get the right bulb onto my shopping list. We only go shopping once a month or so so that is still sitting there until I can get to it. In the mean time the action was take bulb out of loom room and bring over to house for above my desk. The loom is in another building so I had to add it as an action so I wouldn't forget when I was over there.

            Hi BishBlaize
Yes, being from Ireland I am familar with odds & sods . Just curious I'm thinking about using OneNote as a way to capture HOF stuff...any suggestions/thoughts on that. I use Outlook to capture projects and actions...

No, Nozbe doesn't force things to be in a projects. You can choose from contexts and projects, but if you don't know where to place something you just save it in the inbox.

About the lightbulb problem, I don't know which Nozbe you use (the web or iPad/iPhone one), but I would put it to contexts->home.

                @ bradenchase

Can you please tell me how many software's have the option of "Area of Responsibility".

                And their names also.
